A Special Moment at the Pigfoot Event Gallery Open House

This past weekend, we opened the doors of the Pigfoot Event Gallery and welcomed guests from Somerset and surrounding communities to experience the newly restored space for the very first time. Throughout the afternoon, the gallery was filled with conversation, laughter, curiosity, and so many meaningful connections. We loved meeting everyone who stopped in to tour the space, admire the artwork, and learn more about the vision for the gallery and inn.

One of the most memorable moments of the day came as a complete surprise for a few very special guests.

Local artist Rick Akers quietly swapped out one of the paintings hanging in the gallery with a newly completed commissioned piece. The family it belonged to had no idea the artwork was finished, let alone that they would be seeing it displayed publicly for the first time during the open house.

As they walked through the gallery, they suddenly recognized the subject of the painting: a beautiful historic brick home surrounded by glowing autumn trees in Southeast Ohio. The reaction was immediate and emotional. Guests gathered around as the family took in all the details, clearly moved seeing such a meaningful place captured on canvas.

The painting feels warm and nostalgic, filled with rich golden tones, vibrant fall leaves, and soft light surrounding the historic home. Rick captured not just the look of the house, but the feeling of it too. It is the kind of home filled with stories, family history, and years of memories.

What made the moment even more special is Rick’s personal connection to the home. Over the years, he helped paint and renovate parts of the house alongside the family. To later create a painting of it felt incredibly personal and meaningful. The family shared that they plan to keep the artwork in the family and hopefully pass it down for generations to come.

Moments like this are exactly why we dreamed of creating the Pigfoot Event Gallery. A place where art, history, community, and connection can all come together in meaningful ways.

Thank you again to everyone who came out to support our open house. Seeing people gather in the space, share stories, and create memories together reminded us why preserving historic places matters so much. We are incredibly grateful for the support from Somerset and the surrounding towns, and we already hope to host another open house again in the future.
